
Welcome to today’s Mandarin lesson!
Today you will practise introducing yourself in Mandarin using three key sentence patterns:
•your name
•your hobbies
•your nationality
You already know the basics, including greetings, numbers and tones. Today’s goal is to use what you already know in real communication.
By the end of the lesson, you should be able to:
•ask and answer simple personal questions in Mandarin
•use accurate tones and correct sentence structures
•speak more confidently and clearly
This lesson will help you build essential conversational skills and prepare you for future topics such as family, hobbies and daily routines.
How to work through the lesson:
•Follow the steps on this website in order
•Complete all games and activities
•Practise speaking aloud as you go
•Use your notebook to write your answers
Your teacher will check your notebook at the end of the lesson.
Take your time, listen carefully, and have a go. Making mistakes is part of learning!
Today’s lesson has 4 stages: Vocabulary, Activities, Exit Ticket and Homework. Follow this order to complete the lesson, and read the instructions for each section carefully.
The tasks that you are required to write in your notebook will be written in this colour.

What to include:

- Your nationality (e.g., Australian, Chinese, Thai)
- Where you come from (country or city)
- Your role (student or another job)
- The hobbies you like doing
- Something you really like doing
Make sure that
- Write your introduction as a small paragraph
- Use complete sentences in Chinese
- Use correct vocabulary from the lesson
- Check spelling and tones (if pinyin is included)
- Write 6-10 sentences
Complete this in your notebook under the title “Self Introduction”
Make sure that you have listened to the vocabulary words and repeated each 2-3 times
You have completed the MCQ about Sarah and written three sentences in Chinese about her
You have written your own self introduction in your notebook.
You have listened to both dialogues and you have written the transcript for both in your notebook
Record your Self Introduction and post it on Padlet board below.
Respond to one of your classmate’s videos. Write a 1 minute response to their self introduction by introducing yourself back to them. Use the Padlet link below to upload your video, and comment on your peer’s.
